When studying abroad, apart from family and friends, what I miss most are the Chinese delicacies filled with “Wok Hei” at the local “Dai Pai Dongs”. Sitting in the small shop hidden at an alley, flipping through a dazzling array of menus with bursts of tempting food aromas surrounding, there is always the group of uncles chattering loudly whilst munching through their delectable dishes. These characteristics of a “Dai Pai Dong” are the unique flavours that are indispensable to the big-name stalls. These civilian food shops shine with their own light amidst the colourful city. The value of this experience is more than just the delicacy on its own, but also the touching qualities of people, the taste of home."
